We are "enjoying" the 64th year of Independent India. One of the largest democracies in the world. Its actual meaning as I've been reading since my childhood, "Democracy is government, by the people, of the people and for the people". Do we really feel the democracy? Let me split the sentence.
This says, "Government" is formed by the people. To some extent it is true. Few people, very few when compared with the population of our country, do genuinely exercise their right to vote. Firstly, I am to be blamed. I DID NOT vote during the last elections. So, as a responsible citizen I FAILED to make India democratic. The first culprit is in me. There are many people who come under my category. Infact, I cannot put in numbers, but there would be a huge number of population, who do this usually. This is UTTERLY, IRRESPONSIBILITY and CARELESSNESS on our part. So, we (as in the huge number of people, who are not exercising their right to vote) do not have to blame the government as we are not a part of democracy. Are we? First responsibility of ours is, PLEASE DO VOTE for the country and for the people. The people who are eligible to vote and do not vote for their country, have NO RIGHT to COMPLAIN about the system and the government, because, we have not chosen the government. Some one else chose the government and we are blaming it.
Apart from us, there are the so called, "ministers", who are elected by the people. Usually, they campaign for their parties in remote to the remotest village, which are hard to find on the world map. Except for the campaigning, no big politician, apart from them who live there visit these places again. And, yes, there are rules set for the campaigning of political parties during the elections. It is not all wrong. We've been hearing the stories of politicians/ministers buying the votes. Even a fifth or sixth grade student who goes to school knows it. From the news sources and other sources, during every election, we'll hear or come to know of CORRUPTION during these elections. Sometime, the prices of each vote would be paid in thousands. Poor people, who really do not know the value of their votes, sell it for money. But, if really a person know the worth of each vote, and still he sells it, he is literally a "GADDAR". That is a crime. I do not know much about the Laws, but there should be a strict law, which will punish both the parties selling/buying the votes. I strongly believe, there should be a law for this, but it is never advertised in the televisions/media. What is media doing in this case? Are they corrupt too? It should play a vital part in educating the rural and remote areas about the worth of their votes. If politicians pay just a thousand rupees for each vote, their corrupt nature allows them to increase the taxes on goods like petroleum, oil, etc, to recover and fill their pockets, and bank accounts, for the effort they have put in for campaigning and buying the votes. Indirectly, people are accepting a thousand rupees and in-turn paying God knows how much!! people wake-up. People should analyze and realize that, they have to judge a political party on the basis of their achievements and kept promises, which they do during campaigning. Where is an advertisement from media in this direction? If not, can you please. And not finally, we are failing in following up the corruption cases and scams. Media should represent the general public and and question the government and chase it till the country gets justice. People are so work minded in our country. Even if they know that, they are being robbed out of their pockets, not in just tens, hundreds, thousands, but, lakhs of crores of rupees. Still, Anna Hazare should fight, but public will continue their work of blaming the government about corruption. NO ACTIONS TAKEN. Please note that, even I am one among these people and I am also included in the people who should be blamed.
